With over 500,000 animals lost in the storm, left stranded, abandoned, homeless, swimming to save their lives, left tied to drown... rescuers from across the United States came together to help those animals who could not help themselves. Some images are very disturbing and sad, others show the positive efforts made by men and women to help save dogs, cats, goats, horses, squirrels, parrots, snakes... the list goes on.
Gallery 1: Noah's Wish, Slidell, LA (Sept 11)
The first slide show is from the weekend of September 11th. Myself (Isabel Musial), Ami Brooks (from PBRC - Pit Bull Rescue Central), and a wonderful man, Phil, who drove down from Boston, Mass to load his moving truck with supplies to take to Slidell, LA where Noah's Wish (based in CA) set up a temporary shelter using the combined efforts of the Slidell Animal Control department. (Their shelter was 9 feet under water).

Gallery 2: Ami's Trip to Gonzales, LA - HSUS Headquarters
Ami Brooks and Bad Rap Pit Bull Rescue headed down to Gonzales to help out the Humane Society of the United States with the pit bulls there. Over 600 little piggies (pits) still await rescue. Several have now been moved to the correctional facility where inmates have been matched up with dogs for rehabilitation.
